Our chapter is in need of a Youth Coordinator...are you Interested?
Educating our next generation about cold water fisheries is one of the most important tasks facing Trout Unlimited today. We need a new generation of sporting conservationists so that all our work to date will not have been in vain. To this end, Trout Unlimited has developed programs to engage youth from kindergarten to college. Our challenge and responsibility at the chapter level is to make use of these youth education programs in order to attract and educate the next generation.
One of the goals of the workgroup is to create a better line of communication to our chapters regarding all of Trout Unlimited’ s Headwaters Youth Programs. We have asked that all the TU chapters put in place a Youth Education Coordinator (YEC), or at the very least a chapter contact for youth education for their chapters.
TU’s youth education efforts encompass a range of programs and projects known as the Stream of Engagement, serving children, teenagers and young adults. From the nationally-recognized, science-based Trout in the Classroom and Adopt-a-Trout programs to fly-fishing and conservation camps, teen leadership summits and college fly-fishing clubs, TU involves young people in our mission to protect and restore the nation’s coldwater resources.
Contact us at [email protected] for more information or to volunteer.

FISHING MENTOR PROGRAM
If you are relatively new to both Trout Unlimited and trout fishing, our “fishing mentor program” could be right for you. Our mentors are seasoned fishing professionals that will help accelerate your success on the water. Have a question about what tackle (flies, tippet, rod, ect.) to use or could use some time on the water with someone with a different perspective or experience than you? Contact one of the fishing mentors listed below.
"At least for me my early attempts at trout fishing were full of frustration and lack of success until I connected to some of our mentors in our chapter and each of my fishing break throughs (first 18” fish and first fish on dry flies) have come with the assistance of a fishing mentor" Scott- BlueRidge TU member

RIVERCOURSE
Cold Water Conservation Fly Fishing Youth Camp
Camp Dates: June 11-16, 2023
Rivercourse Coldwater Conservation & Fly Fishing Youth Camp is sponsored by the N.C. State Council of Trout Unlimited and emphasizes Trout Unlimited’s Mission, the conservation of coldwater fisheries, while at the same time teaching campers the basics of fly fishing, a sport for a lifetime. Established in 2002, Rivercourse provides a high quality camping experience for boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 15 years old in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains near Canton, N.C. This pristine setting includes a section of the West Fork of the Pigeon River, which is privately owned and stocked with trout for the use of the camp.
More information can be found on the Rivercourse website.
Adult volunteers are needed for the week.
We are seeking adults that are willing to share their love of fly fishing with the next generation. You don’t need to be Lee Wulff or April Vokey; all you need is the desire to help. It’s a unique opportunity to spend some quality time with a young person where you can impart some of your life earned wisdom, and hopefully you can walk away with a new insight or two yourself.
