Trout In The Classroom 2024-2025
Our volunteers will be visiting the schools as needed through the school year to check on the tanks and the progress of the trout. At the end of March/early April we will coordinate a trout release event at Stone Mountain State Park. The schools will have a big field trip that morning where they bring their trout to be released into the stream.
There will be educational stations from different groups. Many of these kids had never been out to stomp in a stream or exposed to the outdoors. They usually have a blast.

Justin Curtis is a graduate of the aquarium science program and operates an aquarium service company in the region. His services might be of great benefit when necessary.
Important water quality parameters for incubating, hatching, and early stages of the trout alevin life cycle.
I suggest these two products due to them not being phosphate based buffers, and they will not contribute to increase in algae growth compared with other products to adjust pH and dkH
The API Master Test kits that you have should include pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. The test for dkH (alkalinity) is sold separately.
The source I used for my information on the trout was found at https://www.troutlodge.com/en/articles/hatchery-process/#:~:text=Water%20quality%20parameters&text=Dissolved%20oxygen

Important water quality parameters for incubating, hatching, and early stages of the trout alevin life cycle.
- Ideal temperature range for incubation and hatching eggs is 46 - 54 F, temperatures of 39 - 66 F are tolerable for short periods.
- pH should be in the range of 6.7 ppm - 8.0 ppm
- dkH (used to measure alkalinity) should be in a range no less than 4.2 dkH
- Ammonia and nitrite should be zero,
- nitrates should be less than 5 ppm
- Seachem Alkaline buffer
- Seachem Acid buffer
- Seachem Digital spoon for measurement accuracy when using these products

Seachem Zeolite™ is a naturally occurring, highly-porous mineral that binds ammonia and heavy metals through an ion exchange mechanism. It has the highest ammonia binding capacity of any available zeolite; ten times higher than some products and twice the capacity of the closest competitor. It won’t deplete calcium in saltwater, and it won’t increase general hardness in freshwater, where the ionic strength is low.
The Bag by Seachem convenient resealable reusable mesh bag. It is ideal for all filtration products like zeolite and has an exceptionally long life.
