Our chapter meets at Texas Land and Cattle
Steak House
just off of Hanes Mall Blvd across the road from Target. Our meetings start at 6:00 PM to allow folks to mingle, order dinner and get settled before the 7:00 program. We welcome new members and visitors. Bring your family with you. This is a family oriented organization we welcome men, women and children.

Fly Fishing in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park
Jim Casada will be our speaker. Jim is author of the book Fly Fishing in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, as well as other books.
Our chapter meets at Texas Land and Cattle Steak House just off of Hanes Mall Blvd across the road from Target. Judson Conway will be speaking at our September 15th
about fishing NC/TN Tailwaters and Patagonia.
June Meeting
Western NC Waters and Tactics
J.E.B. Hall will be speaking at our June 16th meeting about western NC waters and tactics. J.E.B. is from Bryson City, NC and is the author of Western North Carolina Fly Guide. He is currently lead guide for Nantahala Outdoor Center fly fishing program and guides float and wade trips from the Asheville area all the way to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. He also leads an annual Alaska trip. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about many of our western waters and how to fish them.

Project Healing Waters
Steve Hanna, with Project Healing Waters in Charlotte will be our speaker for the May 19 Meeting. Project Healing waters uses fly fishing as therapy for disabled veterans. Steve will give us an overview of the program and offer ideas how our Blue Ridge Chapter may support and participate in their activities. Try to read over the excellent article on Project Healing Waters in the Fall 08 issue of TU’s Trout before the meeting.

April Meeting
Dan River Basin Association
Katherine Mull, Executive Director of the Dan River Basin Association will be the speaker for the April 21st Meeting. Katherine will discuss their work on rivers and trails as well as nature and heritage tourism. She will give special emphasis on their work to protect fisheries, including riparian buffer restoration, educational programs, stream monitoring, and other activities. Katherine will also provide a look at DRBA’s TIC program, the largest in the state of Virginia including how they have integrated TIC with stream monitoring to help kids make connections.

March Meeting
Trout in the Classroom
Trout in the Classroom will be the topic for the presentation at our March 17th chapter meeting. The first TIC programs supported by BRTU are nearing the end of trout rearing cycle and at this program you will learn how things went this first year at Ledford High School in Thomasville and Sugarloaf Elementary School in Taylorsville . We will have presentations from:

Chad Starbuck, NC Wildlife Officer.
This is sure to be an interesting program and if you know of any teachers that would be interested in starting a TIC project, please invite them. Visitors are welcome.

November Meeting
Casting for Recovery
Margaret Williams is the local representative for Casting for Recovery (CFR). CFR is a national non-profit, support and educational program for women who have or have had breast cancer. Various TU Chapters have been involved in assisting CFR in providing fly fishing opportunities at their sponsored retreats. Margaret will present to us a program on CFRs efforts in the southeast and how TU has been involved in retreats in western NC.

October Meeting
Restoration and Protection of the Mitchell River
Dick Everhart, Natural Resource Conservationist with the Natural Resource Conservation Service in Surry County, will be our speaker for the October 21 Meeting. Dick has been working on stream protection and restoration along the Mitchell River and its tributaries for 20 years. Dick will cover the history of restoration and protection on the Mitchell and will present to our chapter various planned restoration activities that we may consider for our involvement. The Feb 08 issue of Wildlife in North Carolina had an excellent article on restoration activities on the Mitchell.

September Meeting
Piedmont Land Conservancy
Kevin Redding, Executive Director, of the Piedmont Land Conservancy (PLC) will be our speaker for the September 16 meeting. The Piedmont Land Conservancy mission is to protect natural and scenic lands, farms, and open space in Piedmont North Carolina to enrich the quality of life for our communities and future generations. They are active in 9 piedmont counties. Many of their land protection activities overlap and compliment TU efforts in cold water habitats. Kevin will provide us an overview of the PLC and activities where we may work in partnership. Check out your Fall, 2007 Issue of Trout for an extensive article on Land Trust partnerships.

Fishing the Smith River in Virginia
Jeff, who gaves us a great presentation last year on matching the hatch, will return to provide us his expert insight on fishing the Smith River tailwater fishery. Should be an excellent opportunity to learn a new "fishing hole"!

Kevin will present an update on the current efforts to monitor and restore brook trout populations., and provide ideas for TU volunteer assistance.

River Keepers Progarm and Establishment of Yadkin Riverkeeper
Montie's presentation will cover a brief history of the River Keeper program; establishment of the Yadkin Riverkeeper; how TU can assist, and history of efforts to preserve the Yadkin. This will provide the chapter with ideas for our involvement in the Yadkin watershed conservation.
